is a cluster of geochemical gold-in-soil anomalies, ranging from
+40ppb Au to >300ppb Au, located within an inferred granitoid unit
bounded by faults to the north and south. Two points were field
evaluated resulting in the location of a sizeable field, 10mx 80m, of
up to meter-scale quartz and tourmaline boulders and of a single
decimeter scale boulder of grey vein material and silicified host?
rock with pyrite, arsenian pyrite and chalcopyrite mineralization. A
weak arsenic anomaly occurs in the area. The quartz and tourmaline
boulders occur in an overgrown swampy area on the boundary of a farm.
They exhibit multiple pulses of fluid flow with tourmaline
laminations and brecciated tourmaline and quartz re-healed with
quartz. Quartz phases are all white; no mineralization (sulphides)
observed. The second location, 800m east, was grey quartz with
sulphides as listed in both the vein material and host rock material
but only a single boulber was found in a limited search. A single
sample (15KDR-001) returned 10ppb Au.
prospect may be indicative of an area of repeated structural activity
and high fluid flow. The boulder trend is sub-parallel to the
inferred north bounding thrust fault of the granitoid body. Although
the single sample returned a low value this is the only location to
date outside of previously drilled areas that sulphide mineralization
has been observed in the field associated with grey quartz veining.
Trending of the abundant quartz-tourmaline vein boulders appears to
anomaly is generally linear anomaly potentially associated with a
fault contact between granitoid and mafic volcanic units where the
mafic units trend obliquely to the structural zone. The anomalous
samples cover ~2,000m are associated with low hills with local
multi-meter volcanic outcrops with millimetric quartz veins (trend
~080 and local cross veins 140/45), linear trends of multi-episode
bull white quartz veins (trend 030, maybe 060) to the east and with
low swampy ground farther to the west. No visible sulphides were
observed in the veins.
prospect may be an area reflecting repeated fluid flow and structural
activity based on the volume and abundance of quartz trends with
gold-in-soil values located in close proximity. The geophysical
images indicate complex geometries of the underlying units.
bull white quartz vein fragments of sub-metre-scale sizes exhibiting
massive to sugary to crushed and healed textures were discovered
during field traverse. Weak gold in soil values, <50ppb Au, and
weakly anomalous arsenic values were obtained from multi-element
samples in the immediate area of the quartz veins. A single vein
boulder trend was also located over a small hill from the initial
find to the west and a single vein boulder train was found in the
cocoa to the east. Total strike of quartz boulders is approximately
130m with a width of roughly 70m. No host rocks were found in the
vicinity however to the south east abundant mafic volcanic float was
observed with a single instance of a potential medium grained
intrusive rock. Three soil samples were collected amongst the largest
clusters of quartz boulders in the widest portion of the veining
(15DOS001 – 003) which returned values of 67, 70, and 16 ppb Au,
anomalous volume of veining associated with anomalous gold and
arsenic values occurs near the inferred intersection of the northern
end of a NNE geophysical trend and an inferred thrust fault
separating the Tarkwaian from the Birimian. From the positioning of
the boulders there appears to be up to three parallel veins at the
widest part of the boulder train all of which are trending
sub-parallel to the inferred thrust fault and are interpreted to be
located in the footwall of this larger structure.
fragments themselves did not indicate mineralization however the
experiences in Ghana suggest that multistage bull quartz veins are
indicative of zones of repeated structural activity and can be
located close to mineralized structures. The low level gold values
from the current limited sampling and the multi-element sampling
along with a weak arsenic anomaly suggest potential for a mineralized
structure in the area.
